Transparent Clock support

Setup, windows, chimes, and the details that matter in day-to-day use.

Everything here is specific to the app as it exists now: setup, windows, chimes, privacy expectations, and the fastest checks when something feels off.

Platform

macOS 14.6+

Included

All features free

Getting started

Download Transparent Clock from the Mac App Store and launch it. The app opens a floating clock window immediately and restores your saved layout if you have used it before.

  • Requires macOS 14.6 or later.
  • Works offline and does not require an account.
  • Open settings from the gear button, the app menu, or Command + Comma.

Customisation

The app is designed to adapt to different desks, displays, and recording setups rather than forcing a single presentation style.

  • Choose Digital, Analogue, Flip Card, Nixie Tube, LED Display, or Word Clock.
  • Adjust text, colours, opacity, background treatment, time format, and seconds display.
  • Use one of the built-in colour themes or create a quieter appearance with your own settings.

Multiple windows

You can create up to ten clock windows with Command + N or File → New Clock Window.

  • Shared settings keep every clock visually aligned.
  • Independent settings let each window use its own style.
  • Window positions, sizes, and layouts are restored when the app reopens.

Chimes and timing

Transparent Clock can help with pacing and awareness without becoming noisy.

  • Enable hourly, half-hourly, or quarter-hourly chimes.
  • Set quiet hours so sounds stop automatically when they should.
  • If a custom sound stops working, select the file again in Settings.

Privacy and accessibility

All features are included free and the app keeps its scope intentionally narrow.

  • No accounts, subscriptions, advertising, analytics, or in-app purchases.
  • VoiceOver-friendly labels, keyboard-accessible controls, and Reduce Transparency support.
  • Preferences stay on your Mac and are not tied to a cloud profile.

Troubleshooting

If something looks wrong or behaves unexpectedly, these checks resolve the usual issues.

  • Quit and reopen the app to restore the saved layout.
  • Review the current clock style, timezone, audio output, and chime settings.
  • If a window is missing, press Command + N to create another one and confirm layout restore on relaunch.

Need help with a specific setup?

Include your macOS version, the clock style you were using, and a short description of what happened. That is usually enough for a useful support reply.
